Ya know how I've always quoted that "The ability to accessorize is what separates us from the lower species?" (That's a line from Steel Magnolias in case you've ever wondered...) I received an e-mail from alert blog-reader Sarah Baeckler, the exec director at Chimpanzee Sanctuary NW in Cle Elum (you didn't know there was such a place, did you?), and she sent along some great fashion pix of their sweet chimps wearing tutus, berets, and assorted other frou-frou. Sarah says the chimps love to play dress-up, and she's snapped a few photos & videos of them playing in their latest garb.
The sanctuary's website is www.chimpsanctuarynw.org/blog --you can click here & see more pix of the playful retirees and read about their former careers as science experiments and baby chimp producers. They're now on a nice big happy farm where all they do is play all day in tutus and get every need attended to by Sarah and her crew of volunteers. OMG does that sound like a fun job?
Which kind of reminds me, we used to have a little cabin north of Cle Elum where we took the kids & their friends all the time. I guess we kind of had our own chimp sanctuary going there for a while...
This is Jamie hanging around in a white tutu reminiscent of Madonna in her "Like a Virgin" video. Wonder if Jamie's seen that one?
Jamie again, wearing a teeny weeny polka-dot bikini top. As a hat. Innovation!
The royal blue, hand-knit beret adorned with clusters of knit flowers. Really lovely.
Also there's a great video on YouTube of Jamie in her ethereal blue/green/aqua multi-layered tutu worthy of Titania in Midsummer Night's Dream. Click here: http://www.chimpsanctuarynw.org/blog/?p=2191
